A group of sandhill cranes flies freely across the sky in central Nebraska. Sandhills are the most common of all the world's cranes. A fossil from the Miocene Epoch, some ten million years ago, was found to be structurally the same as the modern sandhill crane. Today, these large birds are found predominately in North America. They range south to Mexico and Cuba, and as far west as Siberia.
Migratory subspecies of sandhill cranes breed in the Northern U.S., Canada, Alaska, and Siberia. Each winter they undertake long southern journeys to wintering grounds in Florida, Texas, Utah, Mexico, and California. En route, more than three-fourths of all sandhill cranes use migratory staging areas in a single 75-mile stretch along Nebraska's Platte River. I came across these in a farmer's field near Axtell, Nebraska.
~MOMENTS IN TIME THAT BECOME TIMELESS MOMENTS~ Photography is for me a dance with nature. It is the immersion in a landscape; the sharing of a habitat with nature's creatures - the sense of being lost in the moment, where the passing of time goes unnoticed. The serendipity of capturing a moment in time that becomes a timeless moment inspires me. The quiet places, the places of simple beauty, draw me in... from the delicate splendor of dew dancing on an iris petal to the magnificent breadth of a gray whale slicing through the water. With my camera, I am a blessed witness in a field of splendor. COPYRIGHT NOTICE All photographs on this web site are fully protected by U.S. and international copyright laws. All rights reserved.
