Artist's Description
The Great Sand Dunes in Colorado provide a picture of serenity. It is so often windy in the dunes- that's how they are formed, but on this day all was calm. Nestled in a spot where the Sangre de Cristo Mountains buckle inward, the dunes within the borders of Great Sand Dunes National Park have been building and sifting for eons — the result of the San Luis Valley's unique wind patterns. A sandbox of epic proportions, the entire dune field encompasses 30 square miles and the tallest dune towers 750 feet high. The kid in every visitor loves to sled down the sand year-round and plunge into the soft-sand tracks of those who climbed ahead of them.
About Don Schwartz
~MOMENTS IN TIME THAT BECOME TIMELESS MOMENTS~ Photography is for me a dance with nature. It is the immersion in a landscape; the sharing of a habitat with nature's creatures - the sense of being lost in the moment, where the passing of time goes unnoticed. The serendipity of capturing a moment in time that becomes a timeless moment inspires me. The quiet places, the places of simple beauty, draw me in... from the delicate splendor of dew dancing on an iris petal to the magnificent breadth of a gray whale slicing through the water. With my camera, I am a blessed witness in a field of splendor. COPYRIGHT NOTICE All photographs on this web site are fully protected by U.S. and international copyright laws. All rights reserved. Thanks so much. I did have to march through the dunes, but fortunately it was a rare calm day in terms of wind.

Great image. I must assume to get such a shot you had to hike up the dunes. That is no easy chore walking in that sand! I voted for you in the Colorado contest. Such a lovely composition. Ro
